Oslo

I used to be able to renew my passport at the Dutch consulate in Tromsø, but they have changed the requirements and now I have to apply in person at the Dutch embassy in Oslo. So 1600 NOK in travel cost, 5 hours in a plane (this included an hour sitting in the plane at the Tromsø airport while a snowstorm stopped all traffic) and a day wasted for a 20 min meeting at the Dutch embassy to hand in the forms and get some fingerprints taken for a new passport. I guess this is called progress ... 

I had a few extra hours in Oslo, which I spent walking around town and browsing some of the better bookshops. Below some impressions from Oslo in winter.

Vijf jaar geleden kon ik mijn paspoort vernieuwen via het Nederlandse konsulaat in Tromsø, maar nu zijn de eisen veranderd en moet ik persoonlijk bij de Nederlandse ambassade in Oslo mijn aanvraag indienen. Dus 1600 NOK in reiskosten, 5 uur in een vliegtuig (dit is inclusief een uur in het vliegtuig wachten omdat het vliegveld in Tromsø tijdelijk gesloten werd als gevolg van een sneeuwstorm) en een dag verloren voor 20 min in de ambassade om de formulieren in te leveren en vingerafdrukken te laten nemen. Ik kan niet zeggen dat ik deze 'vooruitgang' erg op prijs stel.

Ik had een paar uur extra in Oslo, en ik heb in de binnenstad rond gewandeld en aantal boekwinkels bezocht. Hieronder een indruk van Oslo in de winter.
